CPL Biologicals completes construction of vaccine facility in Dholka, India

CPL Biologicals (CPLB), a joint venture of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Novavax, Inc., today announced that it has completed construction of its vaccine facility in Dholka, India and will commence equipment and installation validation this month so that the facility conforms to global standards for production of vaccines for human use.

Repligen's fiscal 2010 total revenue decreases to $20,971,000

Repligen Corporation today reported results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2010, ended March 31, 2010. Total revenue for the year was $20,971,000 compared to total revenue of $29,362,000 for fiscal year 2009 ended March 31, 2009.

Lytix Biopharma, KAEL-GemVax granted approval for GV1001/LTX-315 combination cancer therapy study

The Norwegian biopharmaceutical company Lytix Biopharma and Korean company KAEL-GemVax today announced approval by the Norwegian Medicines Agency ('Statens Legemiddelverk') to test a combination of LTX-315 and GV1001 as vaccine therapy in patients with resected tumours. Lytix Biopharma CEO Gunnar Salid states, "We are delighted to announce the approval of our joint study to test a combination of two very interesting experimental drugs.

Waste incinerator spewing chemical waste: Says worried Brisbane Lord Mayor

A council commissioned study into the Ace Waste incinerator at Willawong showed that the residents and businesses around the facility were at potential risk of exposure to chemical emissions. The incinerator at Willawong is used to dispose of medical and chemical pollutants that can cause cancer when people are exposed to high concentrations. Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman revealed this last night. Premier Anna Bligh however denies that there is such a risk. She has assured that the incinerator is safe and there have been no problems for the past twenty year.

Antiemetic-regimen with fosaprepitant injection provides similar protection against CINV as oral EMEND

Merck announced today results from a new non-inferiority trial of an antiemetic regimen containing fosaprepitant dimeglumine administered as a single intravenous (IV) 150-mg dose in combination with a 5-HT3 antagonist and dexamethasone compared with a three-day regimen of aprepitant with a 5-HT3 antagonist and dexamethasone for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients receiving a first cycle of cisplatin-based chemotherapy.

Study demonstrates protection against Ebola infection in nonhuman primates using RNAi

Scientists using tiny particles of genetic material to interfere in the replication process of the deadly Ebola virus have successfully prevented monkeys exposed to that virus from dying of hemorrhagic fever. The proof-of-concept study, published in this week's issue of The Lancet, suggests that such protection also should be possible in humans.

Scientists are reporting development of a fast, simple, inexpensive method for determining whether chemicals in consumer products and workplaces may cause skin allergies in people -- a method that does not involve use of animals. Their study appears in ACS' Chemical Research in Toxicology, a monthly journal.

ADDF provides $248,000 grant to ALSP to allow its lead drug candidate towards clinical trials

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation announced today that it is providing a grant of $248,000 to American Life Science Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to allow for manufacture of its lead drug candidate to be used in preclinical toxicology testing in preparation for entering Phase I clinical trials early in 2011.

NeuroTherapeutics Pharma, Inc. (NTP), a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapies for central nervous system (CNS) disorders, announced today that it closed a $43 million Series B financing. New investors include Fidelity Biosciences, MPM Capital and SR One, who co-led the transaction, and Pfizer, Inc. Existing investors Novo Ventures and Thomas McNerney & Partners also participated in the round.
